Industrial Manufacturing

Situation:
  • Rising operational costs reducing profit margins
  • Hot water needs throughout production schedule
  • Solution required high reliability in order to maintain process flow
  • Desire for stand-by power capability
Solution: 3 x 200 Cogen Units

Industrial facilities require consistent operational conditions to achieve production efficiencies and low cost manufacturing. Any disruption to operations increases operating costs and can turn a profitable operation into an unprofitable one. Combined with high-energy costs, profit margins can suffer dramatically. Hess Microgen designed and installed a system capable of producing 600 kW of continuous power and 3,000,000 BTU per hour of hot water, which amounts to 75% of the facility's electric needs and 67% of its hot water needs. The cogen system effectively cuts their annual utility bills for both gas and electricity in half. The installation will pay for itself in a few short years.

Industrial applications can be very attractive cogeneration candidates due to their operating hours and multiple uses of electrical and thermal energy. One of the keys to integrating a successful cogeneration system is an understanding of the load profile for electric and thermal needs and subsequently developing the appropriate run schedule to maximize savings. Hess Microgen's experience in integrating distributed power generation systems into a variety of applications ensures that each individual customer receives the maximum benefit from onsite power.
